Updated Microsoft Malware Removal Tool (Jan, 2006)

It's Patch Tuesday, and that means that Microsoft has updated their Malware Removal Tool. Detection this month focuses on some of the more prolific but "beneath the radar" malware: The full list of families detected and removed by the Windows Malware Removal Tool is listed on the website. The team responsible for the product are also blogging their work.

Parite.B is a hassle if you have a network wide infection (without a fully distributed and working AV), so this is a very welcome addition to this otherwise pretty annoying tool/update :)

Also, a lot of Parite.B infected Gaobot, SDBot etc. etc. variants has landed in my honeypots during the last week.

Microsoft did favor to its customers by releasing this tool. Though its malicious software remover targets highly specific infections, in certain cases it's preferred over commercial software from 3d party developers. If MS had made its Windows Defender as powerful as top antispyware products on the market, they'd definitely take a considerable share of the pie ;P

I have found a scan that works as well as Norton and other scans that are more expensive. If you are interested in learning more then you can go to http://www.Search-and-destroy.com and see for yourself what the antispyware solution from Search-and-destroy has to offer.
